I just replaced my '71 Chevelle SS hood(non-cowl induction) hinges with new repo hinges and springs because the old ones were causing paint scratching on my passenger fender when opening the hood. The new repo hinges now have caused a reverse dent on the top of the hood just over the top of the driver side forward scissor arm of the hinge. Adjusting the hood hinges all the way up and all the down and adjusting the rear up and then the front up does not prevent the scissor arm from binding against the under side of the hood. In addition, when the hood is adjusted as far rearward as the slots in the hinges will allow, the hood still sets forward of the fender edges by about 1/2" and when the hood is placed as low as the side slots will allow the hood only sets right at fender height--not below it. Also (I don't know if it is important or not) when we removed the old hinges the nuts which are spot welded into the hood to receive the hood bolts both came loose on the driver's side and we had to fish them in and tighten them. They seem very tight and I can see no change in position of the hinge to hood because of it. Do I need different hinges(not repo) or is there something in the adjustment I have overlooked. I have used your previous "treatise" on hood adjustment but this porblem seems to be unique. I can't understand why any part of the hinge should bind up against the hood. I have even tried shims between hinge and hood to no avail. Everything is well lubed and moves freely except that I can't close the hood for fear of further damage to it. Any guidance would be appreciated.
