YAY it almost feels like christmas. i finally went to the machine shop today to drop off my 882 boat anchors to get surfaced and a valve job done on them. i was really bored when i was saving up some money to get them done and decided to to a port and polish myself. DAMN they came out awesome, i really impressed myself on this one. even the guy at the machine shop was doubting if i did them myself because they looked so good. he said he was going to flow test them for free just because he personally wanted to see what they flowed. hopefully i turned a set of boat anchors into a descent little set of mouse heads. i just cant wait to see what they will look like all clean from the hot tank and done up purdy.

well here is how i did it--
what started out like a basic gasket match using machinist blue and a scribe marking out my ports went REALLY overboard. i bought a couple of carbide cutters and various stones for my dremel and had at it. once i had them basically matched with the cutters i went to the stones then sanding drums. i did a LOT of reading on the net and in books from the library and found out a lot of do's and dont's. i worked into the short side radius and smoothed out that pretty darn good. i measured the width of the intake port in 3 different spots at the openening and worked back to make sure the ports didn't bottleneck. i blended the bowls pretty good and cleaned up the boss for the valve guide to teardrop it. the chambers i will admit i was honestly afraid of playing too much with so i just removed the casting flash and said it was good. total i guess i have about 20 hrs into them but i needed a hobby and cant stand being bored. so after work each night i would "play" for a couple of hours. i will post pics soon as i get them back.

I sure hope you had them magnafluxed before spending all that time on them.
882 heads are notorious for cracking. They are the 2nd worst SB head chevy ever made. Thin castings that are prone to cracking on the short turn of the center exhaust seats.

good luck.
