Hi.
Are there anybody out there who has plased a rear swaybar onto a 70 Chevelle? Is it possible to use a swaybar from a 72 Chev? Is it hard to fit? Does it take alot of modifications to get it right?
Lots of questiones :clonk: , but hopfully few and simpel answers:thumbsup:

There are companies out there making sway bars for 70 Chevelles. You could buy some aftermarket arms like www.hotchkis.net sells that come pre-drilled for a sway bar. If you want to use stock non-boxed rear trailing arms be sure to re-enforce the inside of the trailing arm with a sleve or a box kit from a place like www.ss396.com

Ground Up actually sells a complete kit too:

64-72 rear swaybar kit (http://www.ss396.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=chevellecamino&Product_Code=DCK-1515&Category_Code=SUSPENSIONSWAYBARS)

If you mean will 72 Chevelle stuff fit your 70, yes it will.

I have a rear sway bar on mine. Went with the Helwig one. I use the SSM boxed lower arms, and either boxed or reinforced are a necessity.

Stem,
All the 68-72 stock parts are the same and interchangeable. Cars with the sway bar option also have boxed lower control arms (which you will NEED). You can seperately buy just the insert to box them yourself and have it welded in. Too easy.
Aside for having the boxed lower arms, you just need the bar, bolts, nuts, washers. Of course, if you use your existing arms and have the inserts welded in, you will also have to drill the 4 holes for the bolts. Again, toooooooooooooooo easy!

Are you asking if a '72 (full size) Chevy sway bar will fit a '70 Chevelle?

Perhaps. I'm not sure.

I knew a guy who used a bar taken from a full-size '66 Impala, and then installed on a '67 Chevelle. So the '72 full-size Chevy bar may work on a '70.

I hope you have a FRONT bar, too. It is my understanding, (not personal experience) that running only a rear bar, or a rear bar that is larger diameter than the front, can result in some "exciting" driving experiences! Read that as 'squirrely'. Others who know more than I will surely ad their $0.02.

70 through 72 have the same set up. The parts interchange. All 70 through 72 have a factory front sway bar, the rear bar and boxed lower arms were a suspension upgrade and were stock on the big block SS option. If you have to replace the rear arms or modify them for the bar you can probably purchase new arms and a bar together for less than the separate components. I have BMR rear arms and bar package on my car and I upgraded the front bar to a heavier bar. It was well worth the money.

Regarding the potential for the squirrels here...

Anti-roll bars are used not only to limit body roll but also to tune weight transfer characteristics. Weight transfer is used to tune traction. If your setup has less traction in the back than it does in the front, the back breaks away first and tries to pass the front. Squirrely indeed.

Adding a bar or increasing the size of an existing bar will increase weight transfer on that end of the car and thus reduce traction at that end of the car.

gee. Norway? I have one that I removed due to ladder bars being installed. I think the shipping would be more than the cost for you to get one. SorryIf you were here, close, you could have had it. phil

Heres the part number for the rear sway bar. 394926 price as of this afternoon was $76.34 shipping was about 16 bucks. Figured since I was ordering stuff, I went ahead and got the PS brackets for a big block too. I thought with my luck when Im ready for another set, they would be discontinued. Jim
