hi i am matt and this is the first engine build that i am doing.well i am not assembling the motor but choosing what goes into it.i am looking to get approx 450 fly wheel horse power.i am planning on using the brodix ik 200 heads with the brodix single plane intake manifold and i am not sure on the cam.the problem i am having is i have no idea how to choose the right pistons.i do know that i want forged and that i want to be able to run on pump gas.so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.thanks matt

go to http://www.jepistons.com/cat/srp/index.shtml

and find what you need. The SRP line is the about the best there is without getting into real expensive stuff. Look at a SCAT (not CAT) 4340 crank and rods. I'd recommend re-thinking the single plane manifold. With those heads you'll be needing a 383 or 406 or bigger.

I went this route: http://www.holley.com/EA60.asp

The crank, rods, and pistons are all designed to work together and come pre-balanced, with bearings and rings. It's a no-brainer setup using all forged parts and 6-inch rods with the right pistons.

It went together easily and didn't require the queer 400 crank balancer/flywheel either (since it's internally-balanced).

I'd highly recommend it for anyone - especially someone doing this for the first time who doesn't want to mess it up.

I run an Air Gap and AFR 215s on mine. It makes crazy power with a solid roller cam.

I used the forged SRP flattops in mine with 68 cc chambers for a nice 10.9:1 CR. Runs fine on 93 octane.
