Bad66Chevelle454 Nov 27th, 06, 11:34 PM Sure didnt....But I doubt I would have.
bc69ss Nov 27th, 06, 11:54 PM Is that a common occurence there? I'm in the midwest, they are claiming were going to have another big one one of these day's from the New Madrid Fault... How much do you feel a 4.1? I was looking at the link and it looks like there's a ton of little quakes almost daily around there...
Mr69 Nov 28th, 06, 12:01 AM Let me just put it this way.......I was concerned enough to get up and run outside. I ain't gonna be in this bldg or any other bldg around here when it comes down.
I figure the safest place to be is in the middle of the parking lot where nothing can fall on me.
Heard a loud boom and then rumbling and the shaking came on hard at first and then tapered off. Probably lasted about 5 seconds.
We've had 2 aftershocks measuring 2.1 and 1.4 within 15 mins. I felt both.
Yes, these little 1 and 2 magnatude earthquakes are quite common and we are having a lot of them along the fault lines here in central CA. But a 4.1 is a newsmaker.
bc69ss Nov 28th, 06, 12:08 AM I keep refreshing that link you sent... Looks like at least two other small tremors within the hour... I'd be pretty nervous. I hope the worst is over!
Mr69 Nov 28th, 06, 12:15 AM If you put the very tip of your cursor on the red box you want info on and click, it will give you the info on that particular event. You can see info for all three.
4.1
2.1
1.4
Doesn't much matter how much of a tough guy you are, when you feel these suckers right under your feet, you can't feel much more helpless and small.
IMO, nothing is as serious as when the earth starts moving under your feet. It's nerveracking to say the least.
bc69ss Nov 28th, 06, 12:20 AM That's a really cool website! I added it to my favorites! Something else to keep an eye on. I do some insurance adjusting so in the fall I'm alway's keeping an eye out for Hurricanes. I have to take the earthquake adjusting test sometime.. It's kind of the opposite type of adjusting as you start at the ground and go up. With tornado's and hurricanes you start at the roof and go down.
twotone64 Nov 28th, 06, 12:41 AM The good thing about little earthquakes is it is showing that the faults are letting loose a little at a time instead of holding out for a big one all together. I didn't feel it, but I did feel the one last year that was centered near coalinga I think.
ChaosEnvy Nov 28th, 06, 1:55 AM I grew up in California, moved out of state when I was 21. When I was about 18-19, there was the northridge quake.. in the mid to upper 6's. That thing vibrated my bed away from the wall. It totally distroyed some major highways. I had a friend that lived in Canoga Park. The highrise she was living is was fine, but the one next to it, was leaning against hers; that was crazy. Felt a lot of them since I was born, and after a while you just seem to get used to it. You hear the rumble, then comes the shake. The louder the rumble, the more you expect it to shake. All throughout school we have fire drills, and Earthquake drills.
cuisinartvette Nov 28th, 06, 2:05 AM I lved in Granada Hills during the 94 quake, and I have to say it scared the spit out of me, so violent it seemed near impossible to even find the floor let alone keep a foot on it.
What bothers me now is the fact Im in a multiple level townhouse now, I pray that thing doesnt come tumbling down, not to mention what it would do to my car. Nobody will insure it as it isnt assembled.
Work sure would pick up though!
Cameano Nov 28th, 06, 2:44 AM We had a 5.0 aftershock this past week, same spot as that one last month that shut us down. I felt the latest one too, not near as bad as last month's quake. I'm surprised you guys in California even report anything under a 6.0. :D Still working on getting a generator setup over here. Anyone hear about our little hoax yesterday? The word of an impending big quake and tsunami sent the folks on the west side into a panic. I didn't hear a thing about it until I saw the news about the hoax. They've got people on the news, talking like the government knew something about this coming quake. :clonk: ;)
Phil Keller Nov 28th, 06, 2:47 AM Earthquakes ain't nothin'. In Michigan we duck bullets every day from gangland shootouts.
twotone64 Nov 28th, 06, 1:15 PM California has absolutely no shootings or gang problems, we all live in harmony since Rodney King helped us see the way to the light.
bc69ss Nov 28th, 06, 1:22 PM :) I was in LA in I believe early 97' when they had the big bank robbery
in Hollywood where the guy's came in dressed in full body armour with machine guns! More than a few people were ducking bullets that day!
