I would suggest a POR-15 kit that comes with a can of POR-15 and the prep stuff. Degrease the nasty stuff with whatever (oven cleaner or somethin), hit it with the prep, and have at it. POR is some of the hardest stuff i know of and will take care of any minor rust probs you may have.

I just did mine with POR-15. I have not top coated it yet, but it looks pretty good so far.
I have a can of Chassis Coat Black to top coat the wall, and I think that will make it look even better.

Well, you've certainly got the oldest Chevelle on this board - 1870. Sorry Justin, I couldn't resist http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I have the body off the frame and am also getting ready to do the firewall and under body, I figure that POR-15 would be best for down under where it would be hard to paint with a gun, but do you still recommend it for the firewall?

is it recomended that i take off mt fenders and inner fenders before painting my firewall? i have been looking at it and it might seem that would be they way to go. i havent ever taken them off before is this gonna be a hassel? like to ree shim or something?? i have a 1970 chevelle not a 1870 o looked for one of thoes but couldnt find one... seems as though gmc wasnt even in bussissnes back then...go figures. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I have not done the top coat yet, but so far the wall looks fine with POR-15 (for my purposes anyway.) I had not taken the brake booster and other items off so I brushed Por-15 on.
I did take my fenders off, and it was not a big deal. I have taken the whole front end off though, so maybe that made it easier. This is the first time that I do such work on my car, and it is pretty easy just time consumming so far (probably will be a different story when I start putting it all back together.) Make sure that you take notes and pictures when you start taking fenders et cetera off.
Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,

I hate when I get sidetracked from the posts for a couple of days and miss stuff like "1870". I'm not malicious just childish http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif.

the only thing bad about por 15 is that if the surface is too slick it will peel off. the best way to prep is to either sand blast, throw a cup of water on bare metal to promote rust before applying ( hahahahaha) or to use a DA and ruff up the metal.
