What should i do after i have stripped my problem areas down to bare metal and either welded in my new peices or cleaned up the original.
What primer should i use?
If i were to do maybe an entire quarter panel should i use body filler and smooth her out and then paint with urethane primer?
Any suggestiuosn would be helpful and what is teh best body filler and primer to use if i wasn't going to have teh cash to paint teh car for a while

I used PPG etching primer on the bare metal. Evercoat bondo, And Mason 2K urethane primer.Check out the link below to see how it came out.

Yep Im going through this myself as we speak.Bare metal gets a Good etch primer,to seal the metal and ensure Nothing will lift through the paint later on down the road. This is real Nasty stuff, use the corect gear to ensure your health. It will Kill you over time.I am using Nason, Made by Dupont,Its a Catalysed etch epoxy primer for bare metal. Mixed one to one,40$ for a quart with the reducer will get you 2 quarts worth. Nasty stuff.but it builds up real nice. Ya gotta use a primer coat on top of it,then seal it,block ect. Rember to etch means to use Acid. I cant stress enough the heath hazzards with this newer high tech stuff. George....

I can tell you I learned the hard way in the last few weeks to wipe the parts down with reducer, thinner, acid etch, or whatever is compatible with the primer and paint you will use. I stripped both an alt bracket and master cyl with paint stripper and thoroughly rinsed and dried them. On the alt bracket I wet sanded it too. Both were dried well before priming and painting (different rattle can primers and paints on each). On both the paint would not dry in all areas. Had blotchy wet and dry areas of paint 24 hours after the final coat. After stripping both again AND wiping down with laquer thinner, I used the same primers and paints with good results.

Filler should ONLY be applied to bare clean steel or EPOXY primer. It should NEVER be applied over etch primer...Eric
