Is anyone running hotchkiss 1" drop springs on a 1966 chevelle BB?

I have them on a '69. You looking for any information in particular?

Yes I am. I was given a restored 66 cloned to a SS with a BB. My problem is this, when I got the car the front end was sitting almost on the ground. While this looked great it made the car impossible to drive(headers dragging and front end bottoming out on the smallest of bumps). The rear is also sitting very low and also bottoms out when someone is in the back. The front springs were changed (not sure what brand, supposedly 320per/in.). Now the front end sits about six or seven inches higher than before. I am considering the 1" drop hotchkiss all around to hopefully get the car where I want it. I figured if I could find someone that had installed these springs I could get an idea how high the car will sit.

Thanks,
David Blanton

I'm in the same boat that you are. I replaced my springs with originals from OPG and now the front is too high to me. Before I go and spend more cash on springs I am going to try and cut one coil off each and see what that does. I have been reading the archives on this and it sounds worth trying. I have also read that if you get springs for a SB with A/C, they work. Something to think about.

Well there are pics on my home page and on the "current specs" page with the springs installed. It's a '69 though, as I said, so your milage may vary.

The car is definatly lower with the springs, but not at all extreamly low. I don't have problems with headers or bottoming out.

I bought new stockers (front) w/AC and cut a coil out of them See how the car sits once everything is put on the car.

I've got a 66 with an all-iron BB and the Hotchkis 1" drop sport springs, but I've also got 2" drop spindles. this combo gives me 3.25 inches to the bottoms of my Hookers from the garage floor, which is just enough to tackle speed bumps in a straight line. with just the springs you should have about 5 inches of clearance which should be fine imo.

Thanks for the info. I found out the springs are Elgin and have 320lb. rate.

I have them on my 66SS and have no complaints. Im not into spring rates and what not, so I really have no idea how much spring weight they have.

I really don't care what the rates are either I'm just trying to get a ride height that I like. Would it be possible for you to measure from the ground to the upper lip of the fenderwell on the front and rear and send that info, then I can have some idea where mine would sit. Also what size rims are you running.

Thanks for your help

Im running 15 inch wheels with a 60 series sidewall. But I am actually using thier 3 inch drop springs. I would have to grap the part number to make sure but mine has more then a 1 inch drop to the measurement wouldnt tell you much in your case. Plus, I dont have access to the car as its parked in storage.
