: left my oil pump shaft out of the 540. any options
SLOPAR Nov 25th, 06, 9:56 PM Hi group. Well, I made a bonehead mistake yesterday. I put my new oil pump in the 540 and sealed it all up and today I realized I left my oil pump shaft out. I have an ARP and the coulping collar won't allow it to go through the block. I am figuring the only way to fix this is to knock the pan back off but before I kill a $30.00 oil pan gasket I would ask if there is another shaft that would let me slide it through the block or if anyone has done this and if they had a plan B. Any and all replys are appreciated.
Thanks,
John Weaver
BillsCamino Nov 25th, 06, 10:00 PM You'll need to remove the pan and pump....
540Hotrod Nov 25th, 06, 10:06 PM If it's the blue fel pro type gasket, you should be able to re-use it.

double yup.
91dxhb Nov 26th, 06, 2:52 AM Done it a couple of times, only not with anything as cool as a 540.
SLOPAR Nov 26th, 06, 6:32 AM Thanks for all the replys. I was just making sure someone wasn't gonna alert me of a shaft that would fit through the opening with the collar on it. I have the one piece pan gasket but I also used The Right Stuff on it and I will destroy the gasket trying to remove the pan. Oh well, it's just another episode of my soap opera sitting on 4 wheels in the garage.
Thanks,
John Weaver
