Would this be correct for a 72 454 Convertible?

Are you referring to the blue vin tag on the door jamb? Does somebody reproduce that?

Yes, you can get quality repros on eBay. The concern here is that in 1972 GM started to list GVRW (vehicle weight) on the decal.

I actually have two concerns:
1-Exactly when did the weights start to appear? My research so far indicates the end of Feb of '72.
2-What the correct weights are for 72 convert big blocks.

Since my car is a Dec '71 build, I had the decal made with out the weights. I'm pretty sure this is correct for my car.

My November 71, Canadian built, 72 Chevelle SS 402 car does not have the weights on the original VIN door decal.

I have a January 72 built El Camino and it has the weights on the decal. This is a SS350 car and the weights are FRT: 2170, Rear:2600.

Anyone have the weights for a 72 chevelle convertible with a 454?

Would the weights have been adjusted for options such as TH400 or A/C or would there have been "standard" weights (i.e. Convertible with a BB).

fyi

The weights would depend on all the option content of the vehicle. There are charts in the assembly manuals for adding or deducting weigh per RPO. Its possible to get 10 SS 454 with a different weight, if they are not optioned exactly the same.

The weight had to be exact because it was used by states, countries etc for computing taxes, for shipping and loading capacities etc

GM lists the weights as follows in their 'Restoration Kit'
Malibu convertible:
Shipping - 3379 (1894 front, 1485 rear)
Curb - 3476 (1875 front, 1601 rear) (shipping weight plus gasoline to capacity)
Options:
A51 +19
C60 +102
D55 +9 (4-speed) or +17 (automatic)
JL2 +16
J50 +13
LS3 + 297 (3-speed), +217 (4-speed), or +314 (TH400)
LS5 +403 (4-speed), +449 (TH400)
N40 +28
UM1 +21 (AM radio and tape)
UM2 +22 (AM/FM and tape)
U63 +8 (AM radio)
U69 +9 (AM/FM radio)
U79 +15 (radio stereo)
V30 +5 (bumper guards front and rear)
ZJ7 +20 (special wheel, hub cap and trim ring)
ZL2 +10 (inducted hood)

These 'Restoration Kits' are FREE from Chevrolet and have a lot of good information. Simply call the Chevy/Geo customer assistance hotline at (800) 222-1020 or 810-696-4800. Have your VIN handy, they may or may not ask for it. I've called for several kits for Chevelles as well as a 1974 Corvette I've owned and sometimes they want a VIN, sometimes they just want to verify the year.
