Hey guys.. Long time no see... Sorry have had a MORE than full plate.. I'll update you one day. But now.. I messed up a little.. Well OK ALOT..

You see I did this, this past week..

Yeah it looks purdy and all, And sorry it's for "rice" but it's done for a friend smile.gif

Anyway heres my dilemma.. Painting was no problem, niether was shootin the clear. However, being in a rush, pressed for time, I made a HUGE mistake.. I mixed the clear improperly. And now it hasn't hardened totally (I used reducer instead of hardener) So here is my question. Do I need to remove all the clear, and then reshoot? Or can I scuff the clear with 400 wet and reshoot with the proper mix? I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but hoping you old timers can give me some insight... Man I feel like a tool! Any advise would be appreciated!

I did that same thing once on a pair of inner fenders, only I found the problem right after the second coat. That's when old Jim Beam used to help me in the shop. ;) I mixed some hardener with some slow reducer and sprayed it over the clear. Checked it the next day and it was fine. I even wet sanded and buffed it. The solvent must have carried enough hardener down into the clear to 'kick it'. I don't know if I'd try that on your piece, but then again, what have you got to lose? You already know what the very possible inevitable is........I don't even know if you could sand un-hardened clear graemlins/clonk.gif

Viagra huh! Never thought of that smile.gif I am thinking it is hardening slowly, I could sand it, but it is VERY succeptable to scratches.. I may just hit it with 400 and recoat once or twice... But Wanted to get the opinion from some of you guys :D

I've been sneaking a peek at your site:

I had to recode your links:

You typed:

This was the correct answer:

http://64.177.19.53/chevelle/thumbs/021.jpg

If you are using a PHP powered webserver, I could find you some code to display your images as real thump graphics, without have to create 84 thumbnails. It's real handy for slow-modem visitors smile.gif

Your car looks like it got even more than the Goodmark Chevelle!

Yeh my car did get more than the goodmark Chevelle ;) but it is lookin good now smile.gif

Never had a problem with my thumbs.. but I'll look through.. Creating those thumbs are no problem.. I have a batch loader that does it.. could do a thousand of em in a few moments ;)

As for my initial problem... It seems as long as you can wetsand the surface, it can be reshot with excellent results. I hit it with 400 grit, cleaned it, then shot properly mixed clear, looks like a million bux! I will keep you posted on the progress and see if it holds up.. I suspect it will! graemlins/beers.gif

A question before you run off,

http://64.177.19.53/chevelle/thumbs/031.jpg

The piece of metal hanging up and off to the right is the lip on the trunk for the bottom part of the rubber seal, right? Were you able to buy this one piece of metal? At the very center there is a gutter indentation, a dimple, designed to carry the water away. Mine started to poke small holes there.

I have more work to do in my trunk and wanted to replace, not expoxy fix. Someone told me I had to get the whole back piece as a unit, and off a donor car?! Anything on that? (it looks like you replaced it in the photo below?

While I'm at it: http://64.177.19.53/chevelle/thumbs/026.jpg

The channel under the back window to the trunk you see exposed here. Does Goodmark make replacements for that? Or will it be more epoxy? I have ordered the filler panel and should have it tomorrow. (Real hard to find for a 4-door. The report is out on the fit until I get in the garage after the snow.)

You shot your car with POR before you started reassembling? No other rust disolving acids like Ospho?

... smile.gif Tell me the other car is a donor, not another project???

Sorry.. to answer your questions in order...

1. No replacement, I repaired that section. They do not repo it to my knowledge. Donor car or fix

2. No replacement for that either (under the filler panel) I ground it down to remove most rust and POR'd it.. Donor car or fix, I suggest fix as the panel goes up and under the rear shelf!

3. I did not shoot the entire car with POR, I had it sandblasted, and used Black PPG DTM primer!

4. the other car is a 68 project at my friends restoration shop!

Good Luck with your restoration!
