: rusted frame
snowdawg Jul 12th, 04, 2:03 PM We who live in the rust belt see a lot of this. I would like to repair the frame by adding a piece but don't know where to cut and weld. Both corner and rail have rot, mostly the rail has the biggest damage. The rest of the car isn't too bad, only the drivers floor pan needs replacing.any help appreciated. Hope the picture is visible. http://c:\mydocuments\mypictures\67chevelle\P1010007.JPG
mr 4 speed Jul 12th, 04, 2:22 PM Your picture didn't make it (at least on my pc)
You would need to cut out any rusted thru or thin metal before welding.
BowtieAaron Jul 12th, 04, 2:37 PM yeah cut the rusted and thin metal out, and make your patch that size of the opening, then butt weld it in. should work. oh and try to use some heavy guage sheet metal. im not to sure of wut guage tho.. maybe 10? 12? somthing just as thick as the frame would be great.
the pic wont work, becuase you need to upload it to a host, or pull it off a website. webshots is free... www.webshots.com (http://www.webshots.com) or i can upload it for you.. speeddemon88@rcn.com

musclecarfreak Jul 12th, 04, 10:18 PM use 14 gauge for your frame graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Peter F. Jul 12th, 04, 10:26 PM I'd say more like 12 guage or 1/8". 14 seems really light to me.
