Dusty,

The Hurst Comp plus shifter is the same for both transmissions, just the installation kit is different. I believe most Saginaws were 10 spline, I know mine was.

10 spline for the input shaft.

With a Saginaw, reverse is over and back. With a Muncie, reverse is over and up. I guess a Hurst Comp/Plus can move in both directions in the over position. I'm not sure about that. The linkage is definitely completely different.

Reverse is in the same place(shifter wise) unless you have something I haven't seen. They use the same shifter body but the installation kit is different. They are all 10 spline and the same length as the early Muncie.

Dusty,

What year car do you have? Is it the stock shifter?

For Chevelles, there are two stock shifter mechanisms. The 64-67 and the 68-72. Sorry 73 and up guys!

The shifter rods and the levers, that attach to the tranny, are different between the Muncie and Saginaw. This is because the distance between the shift mechanism and the shift levers is different from Muncie to Saginaw and the lever attaching angle is also different.

For Chevelles, neither Saginaw or Muncie had a mounting plate for the mechanism, and the chrome handle was the same for Saginaw or Muncie (except 68-72 had Muncie stamped on the handle; most of the time).

You mean over towards my leg and then pull back towards the back of my car for the Sag 4-speed?

I can't believe it's been THAT long since I shifted my M-20..............

no.... well, depends on what way you install the shift lever! i had mine on both ways but that just because i had the wrong parts and had to mix and match pieces.
