Trying to determine when the parking brake warning lamp would have been used on a 66. Normal lamps (with no gauge option) is OIL | TEMP on the left and GEN | BRIGHT on the right. The AIM (UPC14/sheet A2) shows the parking brake alarm indicator in the same location as the GEN lamp would be on a non-gauge car.

Is the following assumption true?
1. Parking brake alarm indicator was only installed on U14 gauged dashes?

2. If #1 is true then what became of the OIL and TEMP lamps on those dashes with U14 gauges?

3. If #1 is not true, then where would the parking brake alarm indicator be on a non-U14 gauge dash?

Anyone have a factory (as opposed to aftermarket) U14 gauge package with the factory harness? Is there a parking brake indicator lamp in place of the GEN lamp?

I believe the parking brake light was installed on the far left of the black dash strip of the 66 dash...just to the left of the headlamp switch. It's about the size of a quarter, and was a dealer installed option.

I have never seen one installed on a car but would love to see a picture of it.

Not much room to the left of the headlamp switch, but anything is possible. When you refer to the 'black dash strip', it that a generalization of the ingition strip area, or do you mean specifically a Malibu/SS396? The 300 and 300 Deluxe had different ignition strips.

Can anyone with a factory RPO U14 setup indicate what the 4 lamp areas are used for? Reproduction gauge kits only replace the two gauge pods and don't do anything with the indicator lamps if I'm not mistaken so those retrofitted kits won't help with the research.

And back to the original first question, was the parking brake alarm indicator was only installed on U14 gauged dashes (and part of the U14 option)?

Dale,

I have a "accessories instalation reference manual" for 1966 Chevrolet models. On page 468 they have the drawing for the installation of this lamp assy. It's called...SIGNAL -- PARKING BRAKE, CHEVELLE 986632.

It shows the lamp to be to the left of the headlamp switch as I mentioned, and then the switch down on the parking brake assembly.

Here is a link to the book. I think there are several places that sell it.

Where the light cluster has four indicating lights/lenses, the U14 cluster has room for only two, each are twice the width of those in the light cluster. A picture (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/data/500/medium/PB250005b.JPG) says it best.

my guage package is the same as Elree, a Dec 65 car, from RedElky post; would that seem to indicate it was only available as an option. Doesn't seem like there would be a place on the dash cluster for the brake light.

I have this dealer "hand-out" from 66 called..."1966 Chevelle Custom Feature Accessories". It has a 4 door tan 66 on the front cover with lots of the dealer items installed on it.

On page 10 in the left hand corner of the page, it has a picture of the Parking Brake Signal light mounted just to the left of the head light switch.

I also looked at the NOS item that I have never gotten around to installing, and it has the instruction sheet showing that same location. The hole size is 21/32, so its about the size of a dime.

1. Yes, parking brake was only part of the U14 package (except "dealer" accessories).

2. NO OIL or TEMP lamps, as shown in the previous photo...

3> NO "Brake" alarm on non-guage cars (except dealer accessories)
