How long should I wait to wash the car after painting it, and what type of soap is safe. The paint is PPG bc/cc. Thanks, Dave

Dave,

I just had my '69 painted and ask numerous people the same question. In each instance I got the same answer. Don't do anything to the paint for 90 days (don't even put a car cover on it). It will take this long for the paint to fully cure down to the base level.

As far as washing...If you put a hose to your car then you are a braver man than I. I have nightmares about water being trapped in places where it just sits and causes oxidation. Some people have suggested using a high viscosity spray and wipe fluid to wash my car rather than water and detergent. I haven't looked into it yet but numerous people recommend Zaino brothers products (see a lot of raving about this on the Corvette websites).

Good Luck,

Bill

I just bought some new Turtle Wax car wash to use on my daily driver POS Accord. WOW what a difference! The car hasn't looked this good since I bought it. This stuff has some kind of polish that remains on the paint after a rinsing.

I have always heard it's ok to wash with plain water within a couple of days but no soap with wax in it. Also, be very careful to avoid water spots.
