was going to use the steel retainers sent with the lunati mech roller/spring kit i ordered but everyone i know is telling me to go to titanium. so i called lunati tech they said the $200 could be spent elsewhere in the build /power for dollar.this motor spins to 6500 rpm. cam range is 2500 to 6800 rpm cam is a 60232 grind. 1.55 spring on a 781 head all parts are lunati how much difference in weight is there between the 2 retainers? will i see a noticable difference in reaching rpm with no float issues? havent cut corners on this build but i would like you guys opinion.

titanium retainers by themselves (get titanium locs, too) will get you 100 rpm, maybe a little more, if you are lucky. I have seen some titanium retainers much cheaper.. shop around.

titanium is at a high $$$ right now so they ain't gonna be cheap.

Titanium retainers will not improve the performance of an engine that is designed to turn 6500 to 6800 RPM. Lunati was correct, the $200 could be better spent elsewhere.
Titanium retainers will not incease the horsepower of any engine, not even a fraction of a horsepower. What they will do is (possibly) allow the engine to attain slightly higher RPM level, which (if the engine combination is designed correctly) might result in some additional fractional horsepower. BUT the engine will need to have the correct intake, cam profile and exhaust design in order to produce additional horsepower at higher RPM, AND premuim (read expensive) valve springs will be necessary to realize and benefit from the titanium retainers.
One additional note. If you are shopping for titanium retainers, spend the $$$ to get them from a reliable supplier, be wary of the cheap stuff!

The ti retainers are about 1/2 the weight of the steel ones. I think they may help more than some people realize, especially w/the heavy weight of a HR equipped BB chevy w/the 3/8 valves. Any weight you can reduce is a + just is terms of reliability.

The beehive spring and retainer setup weigh about 1/2 a dual spring/retainer setup, and look at the additional rpms they provide.
