I was thinking about painting my rails with dp90 and not topcoating it since it is close to factory color but don't know if it will fade and how it will hold up.

I did my frame and several parts that way 4 years ago. Still looks as it did when I painted. Car is garage kept and only been driven about 3500 miles since then.

Are you sure that what you plan on spraying is DP90? A few years ago PPG switched from dp to dplf, meanings its lead free to meet regulations. The new dplf is no where the same stuff as the regular dp expoy. It doesnt hold up as way, just a substandard product.

I would etch prime the frame then use single stage urethane paint for your black. You can add degloss to the paint to achieve the right gloss. The urethane will hold up much better then that dplf...Eric

How does NAPAs 5121 compare? Is it more like the DP90, or the DPLF90?

Thanks,
mark.

I agree with Eric, DP is garbage product and PPG virtually admits it. This is a perfect example of greed on the part of PPG. They tell you: "Don't use this product' butttt...., if you can't bring yourself to agree,we will gladly sell it to you."
They also did this same thing several years ago with their "so called" adhesion sealer. They said "Don't use this product anymore because it could CAUSE ADHESION PROBLEMS." Oh,and if you can't wean yourself of this product, we'll still sell it to you. Their warehouse were stocked with this garbage and they wanted to sell it all off before discontinuing it.
