Hello... I just bought a 1969 Chevelle 396 (Which I believe to be a cloned SS - VIN# 136379G367XXX) It has a tilt steering column that seems to be worn out at the top head. I get quite a bit of wobble out of it. Does anyone know if there is a company out there who sells a rebuild kit???

I cannot get a high dollar replacement right now. (the mrs is still a bit hot cause I spent a bundle of money on it.... LOL she cant understand that the value and prices of these cars have skyrocketed)

Can anyone direct me to a good company to deal with for repo parts.

Thanks for any and all questions and comments!!!!
All the best....
Tom

I would suggest that you download this paper.

http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/01/TiltColumnD&R1-23JA061.doc

It begins by outlining a couple of simple tests that you can conduct while the column is in the car. It should be able to allow you to figure out what needs to be fixed. One common problem is loose support screws. The good news is that they just need to be loctited and retightened. The bad news is that the upper end of the column need to be disassembled to get to them.

There are several more papers that can take you, step by step through the disassembly and repair process. Start off with paper #1 and post your results.

Jim
PS There are no rebuild kits for tilt columns.
