Hey guys I am getting ready to drill the fiber optics holes in my replacement fenders. But the previous owner cut the cables. I think it would be dumb to have fiber optics if they do not work.

Does anyone know where I can buy fiber optic cable or something that would work?

I've been looking for a friend with a 68, same problem, it should have them in the rear as well with a monitor on the parcel shelf, I can't find any repro either, there should be some behind the headlights, maybe you can take a sample around to some specialty telecommunications guys, or you can try solid plastic tubing, that'll work but not as well.

enough to go from the tail lamps (lights) whatever to the monitor on the shelf, front is all there and works, I'll get back to you with an exact length
but brian asked first.

What are the fiber cables for? I keep hearing them mentioned.

basically an option on 68 onwards GM cars that used fibre optic cables from the back of the headlamps to indicators on top of the front fenders and from the tail lamps to a monitor on the parcel shelf that showed when a lamp was out, corvettes had the monitor on the console.

I think they're kinda rare, but if you see a little chrome housings on the front of each fender of a camaro, chevelle, gto, etc. That's what it's for.

When I re-did the interior on my '68 Vette I had one cable that was chopped off in back. To make it work I blunt cut both ends with a razor knife, buffed the ends on a cotton wheel (no rouge) and spliced them with a piece of clear tubing from a aquarium store. Shine like hell now, I wish I did the others. In my 70 Chevelle I fixed the washer fluid fiber optic cable much the same way, it lites up green or pink depending on color of washer fluid.
