In the market for a new bed, queen size. This is the first time I would ever buy one and need some tips. I might try to buy one on Friday if there are any good sales. I wouldn't mind spending a bit more money since a 1/3 of your life is spent on one.

Thanks,
Matt

We bought a Sterns and Foster at the local big name department store. We bought the floor model and got like 90% off their posted retail price. It's been great for the last 3 years. I have heard some not so great things about S & F from other people though.

I know one thing, when I go to buy my next one I'm getting a King size.
Curious to check out the Tempur-Pedic Swedish mattresses, wonder if they're good like they say.

We bought a Stern and Foster in oct. and had them replace it twice before they would refund our money. The bed squeaked every time one of us moved. We when to a local mattress place and had a mattress made.Got a better mattress for less money.

I thought sterns and foster was one of the better brands. Their prices are over 1300 for a queen. I would love to get a queen but my bedrooms are 13x12, way too small for a king.

I meant I would love a king, but the rooms are too small.

I used to work for Bemco Mattress factory.. I built my King Size to my liking. Retail would be upwards of 2 grand... Love it... 2 1/2 inches of Memory foam, 2 inches of latex, 2 pieces of 3/8 foam, NTF Pad. this is on both sides.. the bed is about 18" thick.... wooo

There are lots of beds to buy and most companies use the same material.
Thinks to keep in mind.

Coil Count. 522 and 660 are good coil counts springs.. 722 springs are okay, but a little sloppy in m opinion. but anything with a coild count over 500 is what you want.

Stay away from pillow tops.. yeah they look cool and comfortable, but they actually make the sleeping surface a little narrower and tend to cause roll out of the bed syndrome (I just made that up.) Pillow top covers also have tendency to shift over time.

Edge Supports are a plus, the keep the edge of the bed from totally crushing when you sit on it... Center supports are good for that back.

Good info. I was leaning towards a pillow top.

I've heard great things about those sleep-number beds.

Yeah I guess they're pretty spendy. Maybe they're great but I have my doubts about spending $3000 on a piece of foam. I have yet to see anything about longevity. If I spend that much on a mattress I'd better be leaving it to my grand children.

Sleep number says they have a 20 year warrenty there are (I think) 3 diffrent thicknesses of covers over the air chambers mine cost in the 2000.00 range for a queen I am very happy with mine also minimal movement transfer I was worried about heat retension of the tempurpedic

I bought a Simmons beautyrest pillowtop king. As long as the pillowtop isnt too thick, its a plus. The pocketed coils seem to help also. Shop around, some places will even negotiate on price.

I just bought tonite ........... a king size Sealy, supposed to be their top of the line.MSRP was 2200.00 , on sale for 1800.00 negotiated it for 1400.00. Still way more than I ever thought I'd spend on a mattress. The tempurpedic are all price protected , atleast in this area, all of them were 2399.00. I just think that was too much for something with 50\50 reviews.

I bought one of these with the pillow top; excellent bed; it cured my neck issues and I've not been to the neck cracker since.

I hate those new thick mattresses- none of my sheets fit over them. Besides, I tried a new Restonic and it just wasn't as comfortable as the ancient thing- whatever it is- I already had. Looks like it came over on the Mayflower but it gets the job done. Put flannel sheets on there and it's too comfortable to crawl out of.

the memory foam stuff all comes with a 20 year warranty and im getting mine off of e-bay they have stores on there and will deliver to your house. plus they use the same materials but since they arent name brand they are a fraction of the cost im gonna look into a full for about 400 shipped i dont think the customer service will be as good but i think i can handle it if i save 1000 bucks

I DO NOT like our pillow top. We spent good money on it and we have had it about 2 years. Where we sleep developed ruts in the pillow top from us. I now have a rut to sleep in and if I try and move over I'm laying at an angle, not flat.

My parents bought a pillow top too and they spent a ton on it. They are both very skinny people and they developed ruts too.

We both said our next mattresses will be the foam.

I had one made at the original mattress factory. Queen size orthopedic pillow top. As a previous poster put it, I sleep like the dead. Its very well made and extremely comfortable. I rotate it to keep the ruts from developing.
It cost only about $800, and the quality appeared much better than the samples of other brands on display. That included new, "real" box springs. I am very pleased with the set.

Am I the only one here that still sleeps on a waterbed? Softside Beauty Rest that is at least 20 years old. Sprung a leak last week for the first time ever! The heater burned out about 15 years ago, bought a new one, and never replaced it. Sounds like car parts that get bought and never installed :clonk: . Anyway, gotta still love the bed. :waving:
