: Sleeve on BB harmonic balancer???

I finally cranked one of my 427's that I freshened earlier in the year and it's POURING at the balancer. I pulled the balancer and the balancer isn't perfect, but it's very close, and I'm surprised it'd leak at all, let alone as bad as it is. The seal is new, and I can't find a nick or imperfection, even after looking with a magnifying glass.

This engine has every original component except moving/wear parts and I wanted to leave the original balancer, so thought about slipping a sleeve on it, which I've never tried to use before. The thing that surprised me is, it's downright loose............. pretty much falls on by hand and will easily spin on the balancer snout. I tried 2 other balancers I have on the shelf and the sleeve is equally as loose.

Anybody ever use one of these with good results? How do you go about tightening it up where it at least has a non slip fit? I'd think this thing would seep oil from between the balancer and sleeve as loose as it fits, and can't figure that the lower timing gear would jamb it enough.

I've used a speedy sleeve a few times.
They've always fit fairly tight and had to be driven on the balancers.

Thanks. That's what I wouldn've thought.

Balancer used to have a groove cut in it from the seal, and someone "polished it out"?????

All three of them?? :D

Sounds more like you got the wrong sleeve.
They are normally a bitch to install straight they are so tight.
