: Hinge Pin Replacement Question

I just did a search on replacing door hinge pins and bushings. All the posts say to grind the pinch off the bottom of the old pins, and replace them with the new ones. My question is: Is it necessary to pinch the new pins at the bottom(and if so, how), or is the knurl at the top of the replacement pins sufficient to hold them in place? TIA, Dennis

I replaced hinge pins on my 70 in 1989 and didn't pinch the ends. They haven't moved so I'd say the knurls are doing the job.

Rebuilt the hinges on my 69Z about 20 years ago and the pins are still in place. Just rebuilt the hinges on my 70 Elco about 6 months ago,and they haven't moved yet.
