I came across a sweet product a month or so ago and thought Id share it with everyone as I truely believe its a HUGE time saver.

The product am talking about is 3M's dry guide coat. Its been mentioned a time or two, but I think Ill share much how I really do love this product.

First off the dry guide coat is a graphite based product that you apply using a pad much like a makeup pad. The guide coat covers EVERY single square inch of surface unlike spray bomb guide coat. Theres NO flash time to wait for it to dry, no masking off so you dont get any on unwanted areas.
You can use it blocking body filler, dry sanding primer and wet sanding primer.

Its really helpful sanding filler so you KNOW that filler is STRAIGHT. It shows every single high and low on that panel.
A huge confidence builder for those who have NEVER sanded filler before and dont have that "touch" As it helps you develop that feel for the highs and lows because it shows you what you are feeling!!!

When sanding that LAST coat of poly glaze you can really get things straight. If you find that you need to apply more filler to an area that has that guide coat on it just blow off the excess and take a scuff pad and remove it and apply more filler.

For wetsanding it BLOWS away any spray bomb form of guide coat Ive ever used including one made by SEM especially formualated for guide coating

Spray bomb guide coat clogs up the sand paper leaving it with little blobs of paint on the paper that can dig into the primer producing scratches, plus it shortens the paper life. This 3M product DOES NOT clog up the paper what so ever and extends sand paper life so you USE LESS sand paper.

Its one of those products or tools that really makes life easier, faster and to be frank more efficient. I highly recommened this product to anyone you wont be disappointed...Eric

Good recommendation.

Been using 3M guide coat for a while. Worth every penny. The application couldn't be easier although it is a bit pricey. No waiting on it to dry - no gumming and clogging of the paper like some guide coats.

This is some of the ingredients and of course there is also the 3M manufacturing process. smile.gif

As I'm at the buffing and wet sanding stage of my elky's body work I'll have to say that after using about a can and half of the spray bomb type guide coat I'm not real impressed with it.I DO think next job I do I'll use the dry type instead also....
I learned a couple of things on this project as regards to going the CHEAP route on some products only cost you more on the long run...The thicker paper for masking is one thing that comes to mind...whata bi#ch to tear on my paper machine,I cust it every time.
I fortunatly have a mobile 3m dealer now that lives only about 10 miles from me and sells to me at shop prices. That has saved me a few $$$'s
