Hi guys. This is my first post here. There is a lot of knowledge on this board, it's great. Now my question is what are the correct numbers from PPG or Dupont for the 1972 paint code 75 Cranberry Red ? Also since I'm no expert at painting is there a base coat or clear coat for this. BTW this info is for my cousin for her 1972 Chevelle SS. Thanks for any hel

i too have a code 75 cranberry red 72 chevelle. Joel, i know of a local body shop and restoration specalist whos done several chevelles and are very knowledgable about matching the dupont or ppg paint number to the gm or chevrolet paint code. if you want, i can give them a call for you and theyd have an answer for you. let me know what you think.

Nathaniel that would be great. I appreciate your help.Where I live there's not really a true restoration shop, just body shops that claim to do resto work. They're ok but you don't get the quality you're looking for, they're more interested in quantity, get em in and get em out ,if you know what mean.

Joel, i kno how it is when searching for a good body shop. most just do collision work and dont paint let alone restore. the one by me has been in business 30 years and is very professional. the resto shop has a Dupont database of each year of GM, specifically Chevrolet. they looked up 1972 and found the chevrolet code 75 cranberry red and matched it with the Dupont paint number 5339. they also said that they have a Dupont computer system that takes a digital picture of the paint and analyzes it to create a formula for them to mix paint based on. however thats only when they can not find an exact dupont number match. i kno you had a base coat vs. clear coat question that wasnt answered. if you need any other help let me know. hope this helps
