Can someone please explain to me what the terminology for what I consider the 'fender' vs. the rear quarter is? Is there a difference or are both the front side and back side body pieces considered 'quarters' (hence 4 quarters I suppose). Seems people and companies use the terms quite interchangably.

On a 65, does the front fenders just bolt on/off for replacement or is it more to it than that? I realize a body man really need to get them to fit, but mechanically, is it just bolting them on?

On the rear body panels (quarters I guess), those need to be cut from the body, welded in, then smoothed correct? I mean, they obviously don't just bolt off, but the front fenders seem like they bolted to the body/cowl and then again to the wheel wells.

It basically is this simple, if the part over the wheel in the rear bolts on, it is a "fender". It is always called a "fender" in the front, bolted or welded on. The part in the rear that is over the rear wheel that is welded on is a "quarter panel". So, on an old VW bug, the "fender" bolts to the "quarter panel". On a 65 Chevelle, the front fenders simply bolt on, that is all there is to it. The rear quarters, they are welded on.
