Has anyone installed a power antenna in a 64?
It looks like it could be done, but I don't want to make it a huge project (even though everything turns into that).

I want to know also, and how much will one cost?

I bought one that normally would have been about $75 for $15 on eBay. Brand new. Just be patient and you'll find a deal like that too. I see the automatic ones in the parts stores for about 50 bucks. Not sure about factory power units. Did they make them then??? If so, good luck finding one!
Not sure about 64's but on my 68, it'll require removing the inner fender to install. But I'm thinking about doing it rear mount (either place was factory). THAT is a piece of cake!

I wouldn't see a problem if you don't mind drilling a hole in your fender. All you really need to do is take the fender skirt loose behind the wheel and pull it out of the way to do the job. You may consider hitting a yard for one out of a late model GM. About the only thing I've seen go wrong with them is the plastic tape that makes the mast go up and down tends to break. If it happens, its a cheap and easy fix with a mast assy from GM. Good luck!

I changed to a PA and I love not having to screw around with the antenna when putting on a car cover! My2¢

I have a friend with a real nice 67 Malibu. It has an aftermarket power antenna. He drilled a hole in the 1/4 panel and welded a sleeve inside the hile so when the antenna retracts it is an inch under the body and no water gets in the trunk. It has a support piece that connects to the joint of the inner/outer wheel tubsand then to the anntenna. It's really nice.

Yenko, sounds like your buddy frenched his antenna. Cool trick but how does the water exit the sleeve, rust hole waiting to happen!
OPG has power atennas in two different sizes. One requires 11.5 in of depth under the fender the other requires 8.5, sell for around 80 bucks...Eric
