: Now they are scamming in our classifieds! Read this email I got
Brettd85 Nov 16th, 06, 4:14 PM So I am selling some calipers in our free classified section. Then 3 days later I get this email with the worst grammar ever. Its an obvious scam, I just cant believe how dumb they think we are. Just rediculous. Anyone else recieve this crap? I was hoping Chevelles.com would be a place where we wouldnt have to deal with this too much. At least it was easy to spot. Brett
Here is the email he sent me about my calipers. :clonk:

Bowtie-72 Nov 16th, 06, 4:25 PM Take the money (fake or otherwise stolen), package up a box of junk calipers or really anything else you don't want, and let them have it sent at their cost. Make sure you put the value at 0.00, since there's no fraud on your part.... Even if he complains

Brettd85 Nov 16th, 06, 5:34 PM Alright, Ill do it.
Andy69 Nov 16th, 06, 5:49 PM tell him you require cash for shipping costs.
yes, these guys are all over the internet sending this stuff out. We block thousands of IP addresses from viewing the classifieds but they keep coming.
One plan is not to list your email address in the ad, then only other registered users can contact you. The scammers rarely register as they do not want us to know their real address.
Al
I can't believe their new closing tag:
NB: if you have sold the item you can get back to me
with another item which i will purchase it with out
any further delay."
dgwar Nov 16th, 06, 10:11 PM Just for fun, I showed this to a retired english teacher. I had to laugh when she said... "the poster also has four mistakes in his letter"
Brettd85 Nov 16th, 06, 10:43 PM I'm not perfect.
Brettd85 Nov 17th, 06, 1:53 AM Here is his response. $1500 seems a little excessive for brake calipers. So he is going to send me a counterfeit money order now?
Hello,
i will like to offer $1500 so get back to me
with your full name and address so that i can mail out
the payment on time....
bisjoe Nov 17th, 06, 9:44 AM Yes, for the sale and shipping, then he'll expect you to send him back real money for the shipping. Hardly seems worth scamming for what the shipping would be on calipers. Probably will jack it up to a few hundred at least. You might consider taking the e-mails and fake check to the local police, some of them actually do look into it, especially if the guy is in the states. I get 3-4 a week of these from my various ads, offering twice what I'm asking for the El Camino. I don't even answer any more, just block their e-mail.
Bowtie-72 Nov 17th, 06, 11:47 AM You make them pay for the shipping on a COD or freight collect so you're only out a little time, tape, and a box.
ChaosEnvy Nov 17th, 06, 1:20 PM Take the money... Deposit in your bank.. and tell him you have to wait for it to clear. because it probably won't. Its a nigerian scam. You deposit a big amount, and give him what he overpaid back. So that in the end you lose money.
I got the exact same email. :(
Brettd85 Nov 17th, 06, 4:57 PM Lol, yea he wants the money back same day. These guys are so cute.... Here is his other email.
HELLO ,
THE PAYMENT THAT WILL BE SENT TO YOU WILL CONSIST YOUR
ITEM MONEY ,THE SHIPPING FEES AND MY OWN COMMISSION AS
THE AGENT,SO MY CLIENT PROMISED TO ISSUE OUT A PAYMENT
TO YOU WHICH WILL BE ENOUGH TO HANDLE ALL THE
TRANSACTIONS.MY CLIENT SEEMS TO BE VERY INTERESTED IN
PURCHASING YOUR ITEM AND HE DOESNT WANT ANY OTHER
PERSON TO BUY IT. HOPE ALL IS WELL AND UNDERSTOOD?
The only question i will like to ask you is;
1. can we trust you with the money?
2. will you be able to wire transfer the excess
the same day u receive the PAYMENT ?
3. is the item is brand new?
4. can we take you for your words?
with your reply to this questions,it will give me the
power to authorise my client to issue out the check
for you as soon as possible.
and again which name is to be written on the payment
that will be sent,is it going to be on the address
you gave me or what?
get back to me ASAP to futher show your interest in
selling the item for my client.
Regards
Brettd85 Nov 17th, 06, 9:12 PM Heres another. We will see what he sais after I tell him I have to wait for the money to clear.
Hello,
as soon as you got the payment you have to deduct
your item money and don't worried about ship the item
by yourself okay because my client have promise me to
handle the shipment by himself so just for you to do
is that as soon as you got the payment deduct your
item money and go to any nearest western union around
and get the money transfer to the shipping company
name and address enclose to the payment okay so hope
you will understood as soon as you got the payment okay...
Bowtie-72 Nov 20th, 06, 9:41 AM Tell him you don't have any western unions around, but you will include a "certifiable check" i the package, since it is going to the person anyway and they will have to wait. Do this AFTER they send you your "payment" so they can only bitch and moan about it. Send them some spent ammo, and say "here's your used calibers" They'll probably never notice the misprint, and if they do, say you sent the wrong package, and you'll have to have them schedule for another pickup. This time, send something else, but do somethign different.
Have them send it to you, but at somewhere other than your home address (just in case).
CRUZN69 Nov 20th, 06, 10:27 AM Just call the FBI.
Brettd85 Nov 21st, 06, 3:47 PM Heres some other emails I recieved. I had to keep asking how much he was going to send me. I have to admit, it is pretty fun to play around with this guy. If you really think the FBI will look into it I will contact them, otherwise Ill just mess with this guy. For some reason I doubt the FBI would do much about it, even if they could.
Okay, but the payment am sending to you is real
payment so bear with me for that and also by tuesday
you are going to receive the payment...
OKay, the amount you are going to receive is $4500 so
as soon as you got the payment just deduct your $1500
out of the money and also $50 for your effort toward
the transaction so the rest of the money will be wire
to the name and address i will provide for you
okay....
Bowtie-72 Nov 22nd, 06, 10:26 AM I would reply (once money is received):
"I have sent the $1500 + $50 for the effort to the new address.
Thanks for the business", then don't reply anymore.
FBI probably won't bother since it's under $5,000.
SS_Dave Nov 22nd, 06, 4:54 PM I have been getting hoards of these at work.
I don't understand why at work and not at home as much.
I tried stringing one guy along.
He said he was from Coca-Cola and I won a sweepstakes, but I
had to send a finders fee to collect the 1 million dollars.
I told him to take it out of the mill and send me the difference.
he says he has too much integrity to do that.
So i say, I'll have my brother in law come over with the cash
and he can pick up the million. I trust him cause he works for the FBI.
If he looks a little upset, its because he had to shoot an internet scammer
the other day. He is a little jumpy about that still.
He never responded.
1bad69+70camaro Nov 30th, 06, 6:16 PM i got exact same email for my engine on here. what do i do?
cardude905 Nov 30th, 06, 6:20 PM you are not alone, i, almost got the same request from my add! it is a scam and dont send them any thing! we all have to be care full!!!!!!!
davis95 Nov 30th, 06, 6:54 PM I haven't seen these yet, but I have been getting emails from "PayPal" telling me my account is locked out and they need my information updated. I hope nobody falls for this one. I used my real Pay Pal account just a few hours after I got one of these emails the last time and it was all good.
