: Found 67 donor hood - clearance suggestions?

Earlier post I explained that my new engine is too high to clear the closed hood on my 67 SS. So, a little searching and I found a donor hood that I can chop up to my heart's content. Anyone have/seen any subtle hood mod's that might work for the 67 SS hood? I'm probably going to have to find a good glass shop to hand form some type of cowl system that integrates the two appearance side scoops, but thought somebody might have a better idea.

Thanks,

Mike

Try glasstek. They have excellant hoods at least from what I've seen.Look at Dale's 67,the Great Pumpkin. It looks nice and it's not a hood that's been cut up. www.dalesplace.com (http://www.dalesplace.com) He has pics here.

From what I remember you only need an inch right? Can you just cut the supports out to give you clearance? Also will this car be driven in the rain? If not you can cut about 1/2 inch away from the air cleaner and just let it "Poke" through the hood and paint the cleaner cover to match body color http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif that would look cool.. or one of those funky billet air cleaners! that would look pretty mean poking up through the hood! Or you could cut the hood and make your own cowl out of sheet metal.. Lotsa ideas you can do! good luck.. and most of all have fun!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't cut a hole in an SS hood. It just makes me sick everytime I see someone that has done that. Use a Malibu hood. I had a 67 SS with Malibu hood that had a scoop on it back in high school and it looked pretty good. I like the cowl hood suggestions and Dale's looks bad ass.

While a 4" scoop might not be your cup of tea, mine required that much due to the FI unit. I agree with everyone that you shouldn't chop up even a spare SS hood. Glasstek (630-978-9897) will make a hood with any scoop size you want. I've seen 65s and 66s at CB with 1" and 2" rises. Very subtle and very clean.
