I am replacing the quarter pannels, trunk pans and the wheel wells. In what order should I replace them. Do I need to brace anything?

I guess I am asking how to replace these sections.

The quarters are like 3/4 skins. They go about one inch over the top of the corner crease thing. (were it goes from side to top)

Is there a book or something that is pretty easy to understand. With not much manotany. Thanks

Well since no one else is helping you, here (http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/ochrisl/lst?.dir=/1970+Chevelle&.order=&.view=l&.src=bc&.done=http%3a//f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/) are some pics of my quarter/wheelhouse replacement. All i can tell you about the 3/4 quarters is to cut them low like i did in the pics and save yourself a nightmare.Trust me, dont try sectioning it up by the sail panel. BTDT. graemlins/sad.gif Good luck.

I did the same repairs last winter in my shop. I started to do one side of the trunk first. After that was welded in, moved to next side. After that was in, then I cut out the full quarter panel to expose the outer wheelhouse. removed it and welded new one in place. Then patched the inner wheelhouse as required. Then last, I cut and welded in the 80%quarter skins exactly as 70isfine photos show. I thank him for his photos as this was my first time, and it went well. After you do one side, then move to the other quarter and wheelhouse. It is important not to remove too much original metal as it ties everything together and holds the correct positioning. Don't get over anxious and cut everyting out. Sometimes you need to look at the other side to figure out how it goes back together. And make sure you have the body bolted to the frame throughout all this process, again to hold it all in correct position.

When you start doing the trunk first, you may need to cut a hole in the back lower rear quarter to help you get at the trunk drop offs to weld the new trunk floor in. But a hole still keeps it all in correct position until later when you will take it all off. Thats how I did mine, but as I said that was my first experience at this kind of work.

70isfine Did you use a mig for your welds or tig?

I used a mig. A Hobart Handler 135 with gas and .023 wire to be exact. All you are really doing is making a bunch of small tack welds so you don't need a massive welder, just good control. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Good Luck!
