Dumb question #1 which has probably been answered before. This fall I'm pulling the engine and beefing it up alittle and planning on detailing the engine compartment. Can the inner fender wells be removed without taking off the fenders. I have aircon and was wondering if they could get past it. Which is the preferred plastic or metal. Will be talking to you allot over the next months. Thanks for any help. Other areas have been exceptional. Great Site.

Shouldn't be a problem, even with a/c. Just jack up the front end, take your front wheels off and unbolt them. I did this on my 69 with little effort. As far as steel vs. plastic, it's preference. Many guys on this site feel the quality of the plastic ones isn't very good. I've had experience with both now, plastic on a previous car and steel on this one. I prefer the plastic. They are lighter, don't require painting, will never rust ( even though my car is summer only ) and are easier to install as they will flex for you, as steel is rigid. The steel ones I took off are in primo shape, and I will reuse them, but if I could afford to switch, I would. The only advantage to the steel for me right now is that the previous owner of my car drilled a hole in the driver's side inner for a Crane vacuum canister. I'm able just to weld it up and paint it, on the plastic it would be permanent.

Craig,
I have metal and A/C - remove as Dan advised, they came out pretty easy.
