Do I have to grind the block to clear the bigger stroke? Heard even if itīs okay you should grind it so it clears a rod bearing failure.

Have to mock up engine checking all clearances between rods and cam, crank and rods at bottom of the bore. Some blocks seem to swallow up the stroker just fine, others like mine needed extensive clearancing!

Hey (that's how we say Hi! in GA)
I just built a 496 BB(1/4" stroke). Block is a Gen V from a 1-ton PU. Didn't have to grind the block at all. used H-Beam rods..can't remember the brand.

I had to grind mine, 498 Mark IV block with Eagle crank and h beam rods. Only had in two spots on each cylinder, bottom of bore on pan rail side and cam tunnel. From what I've read here its pretty much hit or miss if you'll need to do any clearancing. Have to trial assemble and check for sure.

Hi Marcus,
No one can tell you if it will clear or not. Just because someone has built an engine or two with clearance does not mean much except their stuff cleared.
After you do a "few" of these you find not all of them clear

As Bob stated, you will need to check but most 4.250 stroke BB combos will clear.

Just for added info, almost all 3,750 stroke small blocks including 400's will need to be clearanced with H beam rods as well as most 350 blocks with a stock stroke with H beams.
It ain't much but they need to be checked
The 400 blocks are almost always worse on one side so you want to check all the rods.

We now just run the block in the CNC machine for what we know will be .050 or more clearance.
Beats the crap out of finding out while assembling the engine ;)
