hEY GUYS.
I am starting to do a 70 and hear everything about paint. QUESTION? I have blown some vari-prime before {got plenty of runs}. Is S-W as good a paint as the dupont brands?Ir so, I need an etch-Tint primer and do I need to seal before paint? If you know manufacturers numbers on each please include. My locals yesterday didn't have updated numbers. Thanks,
PLUS- I have never blown BC-CC in anything.

Not really following you, are you getting ready to paint or starting bodywork? If you are just starting go through the archives. All the knowledge you can download till your brain explodes. Take what you want and leave the rest. What is your exp. what stage is the car in, more info please.

I used Dupont for years and swore by it. I tried SW and switched over due to the fact you get a 7 day window before you have to put the clear on. This worked out great for me when I put graphics on cars. Not as rushed.
And on a plus note, The clear is alot easier to buff.
Both brands are good. PPG is also a great paint too.
Keep in mind I'm talking about basecoat clearcoat systems.

Thanks guys,
Actually I just decided to do inner fenders, undernath hood etc. Started with rattlecans and all the viewing here made get the urge to retreat and blast the areas and just start workin the body and see what I could do. I will etch metal then I am lost about their build primers,sealers,Bc-Cc systems and all. Ordered a refurb platinum today.Primer# and that type thing will help.

bailey Ive used S-W, dupont and PPG. The shop I work at used to spray S-W paint but switched to PPG. The bigggest reaosn was due to the clear. We had several problems with the clear, fisheyes, adhesion problems and the biggest was die back(when the clear losses its gloss) We had to continuly buff cars to keep up the gloss. My bosses 46 ford convert was cleared both with S-W and ppg clear, the difference is night and day, the S-W clear looks like dog breath.
Other then the clear really sucking I liked the products offered by S-W. The etch we used was under the # of EGB980, it was a filler etch, the etch to use is EGB973 or 983 cant remember the number, but it will be a vinyl etch not a filler etch. As for primer surfacer# PH48. As for the tintable primer its under the name of tintn prime.
If you have the entire car in primer there is no need to seal the car. Pretty much a waste of money to seal a car covered in primer.
The only thing I didnt like about dupont was the hard clear, it buffed hard, other then that gret stuff. Your etch stay with the variprime 615s. Primer surfacer in my book its hard to beat the uroprime 1120s(beige) 1140s(gray) As for the tintable primer dupont has a sytem called the valu shade, dont know if uro is apart of that system or if its a diff sytsem all together.
For the base coat I would spray the chroma premier system over the chromabase. Seemed to get better coverage and look deeper. As for the clear liked the liked the 7800s.
Good luck..Eric
