If you check on the inside of the passenger fender on the underside, you'll see a circular lip...that's where the antenna goes.

AM which would be on the 1/4 ?

Not all factory AM radio antennas came on the rear quarter. Mine is on the front fender. Not sure what the determining factor was for the placement

Bill, the rear mount antenna was an option but only for AM radio. If you didn't opt for the rear mount it came on the front fender.

My 69 Malibu has the antenna on the pass fender. It is equipped with a AM P/B radio which is most likely the original a far as I can tell as my car has not been molested in any shape or form other than the minor front driver-side fender-bender it had before I bought it.

Just debating if I should put my antenna back on the front fender?
Thats were it was originaly, humm I guess I answered my own question:confused:
The antenna on the rear does look better.
Plus my original photos of when I got the car shows it:secret::clonk:

This is kind of interesting. My 69SS ( Oshawa built car ) has AM/FM but a 1/4 mounted antenna. As far as I know, it has always been like this.

My 69 has the AM radio and 8 track player only and had the antenna on the front fender.

wasn't an antenna in the windshield an option for part of the 69-build?

1970 was the year for that.

To my knowledge you could only get the rear 1/4 antenna with the AM radio. The biggest problem, if you want to stay factory correct, with putting it on the rear quarter is unless you have an old antenna from the rear, they are almost impossible to find. They have a different base than the front mount antenna.

That is what I thought also, but some peoples build sheets have proved us wrong.
