I bought a use edelbrock performer 2-0 intake for my 454. I noticed the ports are much smaller than the my head intake ports. What do you think about gasket matching and porting the intake. How many ponies can be gained?

I say do it!!! basically the intake runner is an extension of the head ,so just consider the port as one...Air flow doesn't like a sharp and bumpy ride too the valve!!!Keep air disturbance to a minimum.. I think for the most part h.p. will vary in every engine, but rpm will likely climb up the scale a bit on most engines.

not to steal your thread but has anyone ported a supervictor to AFR 335's? do you need to open the ports wider or taller on the intake?

the edelbrock web site says the port size is:width 1.55 hight 2.30
I believe the port of the AFR 335 is 2.5H-1.770W(+-)

Intake is smaller but fits closer than most anything else.
Heads are
305-315 2.430x1.700
325-335 2.450x1.720
345-357 2.500x1.775
All have a .500 corner radius

You want to get the gaskets from AFR, they fit the head very well.
The 305-335 use one gasket, 6855
The 345-357 use another. 6856

SS.
Match the intake to the heads, not the gasket.
You may or may not see a gain but it won't hurt & you will feel better,,, ;)

I had a Performer 2-0 that I ported.Ran it on my 454 for a few years. When I swapped to an RPM intake, there was no noticeable gain in ET or MPH with the RPM.

I ported the Edelbrock intake that came with my ZZ502. It was also mismatched. I will tell you that you need a special bur on a die grinder to do this. Regular burs 'load up' when used on aluminum. I used a Snap On bur made for aluminum, worked great but cost $50.00!!

very true there was a thred on this but from experience i know a wrong bit will clog up quick.

Spray a little WD-40 on the stone/cutter and the aluminum piece that is being ground. It works wonders at keeping the tool from loading up. Good aluminum cutting/grinding tools can be purchased at Travers, Enco, MSC, etc. or one of the porting supply sources like ABS Products (Brea, CA) or Cylinder Head Abrasives (Rancho Cordova, CA).

I have wanted to do this...my intake ports need to be longer and my head ports need to be wider but idk if i want to try it and risk screwing it up or if i should pay someone to do it
