I have a 4 core radiator in the 70 SS 396 that i am restoring, the finned area of the core is about 28 inches wide and 18 inches deep. The fan shroud that i am told is correct for my car is only 24 inches wide and 18 inches deep. Can any one tell me if i have the wrong rad or shroud or what ???

I think that is right, but my son just left in his 71 BB. It has the original radiator and shroud. when he comes back I will look to be sure.

I just went out and measured my shroud on my 70 SS. It was 19x24 and about 2 1/2 inches deep. It doesn't cover all of the radiator. The area that isn't covered in on the drivers side.

This is right, all the Chevelles I've seen including my own '70 have the narrow shroud on the wide radiator.

Gary, hope the core support worked good for you. The fan shroud on my '70 400 Malibu is original and exactly as you describe. It does look strange not covering the whole core.

Looking at your sons car will not get you anywhere. The 71 BB shroud is different and made in 2 pieces, it also should cover more of the radiator than the 70.
