The cam specs on that motor are pretty small. It could really use more cam. The problem is the vortec heads are lift limited to around 480 lift (but they can be modified). IMO a Voodoo 262 or 268 cam would be a nice upgrade, but the lift maybe to much for your heads.

You could use a lift rule cam for circle track applications if you want more duration but don't want to mess with the heads. They are for circle track cars where the rules limit lift to a certain amount. Crower makes some with various lifts and durations from .390 to .450 lift and durations starting at 218 @ .050". I'm sure there are others out there but the Crower cams are what I'm familiar with. They are ground on a tight LSA which will give you a lopey idle and good midrange torque. PN 00256 has 220/226 @.050" with .451"/.453" lift on a 108 LSA.

Just as a side note, I built a 383 with a crower cam and I love it. I do not know why more people do not use them.....

Looks like the new Reed Brute street 272dp is a pretty good match for that eng.

I thought the crate engines used hydraulic roller cams.
If they do, and you can modify your heads to accept .492" valve lift, about .540" before bind., Lunati has some excellent cam grinds. The HR8/HR17 is 284/292 at .0045", 218/226 at .050, .492"/.492" valve lift. The 218 was sold as the 5.0L Ford Stage II cam for about 10 years.
If you want to push your converter, the HR17/HR18 is 292/300 at the seat, 226/234 at .050, still .492"/.492" valve lift.
I would use 112 LSA for the smaller cam, and 110 LSA with the bigger, and a 3000 SS converter.

The ZZ4 mtors do but the HO330hp motor uses a standard hydraulic cam. I think they are like 212/222 .435/.460 114lsa.

What about a Comp 270H?? It specs 224/224 with 470 lift on a 110. Should be a sweet cam for that motor and about the largest you can use with a stcok converter.

I think that the vortec heads prefer a split pattern cam to help out on the exhaust side.

the vortecs do like a split pattern cam but since it has a better ex to intake flow ratio it doesnt requires as much split as the earlier stuff. Thats why I linked the brute street, it only has a 5 degree spread for the ex. and the valve lifts on them make them a better slip in cam without having to get crazy with the rest of the valve train.
