Hello all Im thinking of painting my 69 elco a factory grey color or a dark grey. I was looking at paint codes an saw deep grey metalic was an option in 69.I was woundering if anyone has a pic of a chevelle or el camino with with this color or a good dark grey.

So no body has a pic of a dark Grey Chevelle or el camino?

There was no gray, either medium or dark, available in '69. Closest was Cortez Silver which was a light silver. In '70, Shadow Gray code 17 was available, which was a dark gray metallic.

Then why does it say in the paint code section for 69 code 83 deep grey metalic on the 1969 gm color chart? Was this not avalible for chevelles or elcos?

I don't think those are all Chevelle colors, just 69 colors - Buick, Chevy, Olds, Pontiac.

Additional colors were offered on Canadian Chevrolet models that were not offered on their U.S. built counterparts. Whether all of these additional colors were available on Chevelles is not known but many were.

Ok I guess I was wrong about it being a chevelle/elco color. Thanks Scott and Dean. But it was an option in canada. Interesting! Well in that case. What do you guys think if I painted my 69 elco this color with black stripes on the hood?

I cloned a 71 Heavy Chevy to SS and used a color similar to that. I think it was about a '90 Dodge truck color. I loved it.

I painted my 69 cortez silver with stripes similair to that color. I think the car would look great in that color.

I would lean towoards the newers metallics for visual enhancement, like I did on my 70 chevelle 4yrs ago. Go look at the 2000 Cadillac moonstone metallic.
Awesome gray with eye popping pearls in it. turned out killer with the black stripes.
