I am restoring my door hinges and have a question about painting them (and probably a dumb one!). Should I prime/paint the parts unassembled? Or reassemble and do it? My concerns is that once assembled I won't be able to adequately prime paint them...lots of hard to hit nooks and crannies. Suggestions???

Thanks!

Assemble them. To Paint, hang from wire, wear protective gloves, hang so you can lift up from body side of hinge to get all areas. TAKE your time when spraying, allow plenty of flash time between coats. Use only enough material for coverage and protection. Remember once on car most of hinge can't be seen. Karl

P.S. If you have the proper compression tool you can leave spring off, and carefully install after painting separately. Karl

If you have a bench vise, you can paint them prior to reassembly. When pressing in the pins/compressing the springs just use a folded up paper towel on the jaws of the vise to prevent nicks and scratches in the paint.
