Dale, thanx for the help- went to your web site - very infomative- have question about LS-6 that I aquired from an old jet boat, #'s say its a 70 LS-6 built in tonawanda, but unsure if it would describe if it was a crate motor or not & if any way to make a #'s LS-6 car in future if I found orig LS-6 car minus the motor. thanx Brian

I'd check for a suffix code after the engine assembly date (i.e., T1025) indicating hp and trans type for a car and/or VIN derivative. I'm not particularly a numbers guy but a 'matching' would be worth more to me than an LS6 car with a replacement engine.
Just my philosphy but an original engine in any SS car sets it above a replacement 396/454 engine. As a driver it's no less desireable, just not worth the extra that an original engine would be worth...then I'm not sure I'd be driving it and I love to drive 'em. :D
