I am looking to buy a welder to do trunk floor and bodypanel repair on my malibu. The one I'm looking at is a Lincoln 100 flux core wire welder. I need a wire type because that is the only welding I could ever do.(can't stickweld to save my life) I also need one that runs on 115V. Does anyone know if these economical,"home workshop" welders will do the job or would I just be wasting my time and money? Many thanks in advance. Deejay

A kit is available to convert the Lincoln to MIG(gas). I have been well pleased with my Lincoln weld pac 100 using only the flux core wire. The mig set up is better for less experienced weldors however. Just remember to use correct polarity. Flux core/negative terminal to ground(workpiece), MIG/positive terminal to ground(workpiece). The Lincoln will come with instructions to that effect.

I have a Lincoln 100 flux core. I just added the kit to convert to MIG. I am welding in trunk pans and it works great.

I like my Hobart Handler 135. It came with the gas regulator so I leased an Argon/CO2 bottle and am stitch welding floorpans with .024 solid wire. I've never welded before and am having a lot of fun learning.
You can probably get away with flux core for the trunk floor but I think you'll want to convert to gas for the body work.

I bought the Hobart 135 as it is the one carried at the local welding supply shop where I will get the gas cylinders filled. The Lincoln and Hobart are both excellent welders and I suggest you go with the one your gas supply shop carries as if anything breaks they will be the ones you need to go to for parts or repair.

Before I started my chevelle, I looked at every brand available (literally even the italian Cebora junk) and spoke with two body shop owners who are friends. When it was all said and done, the best quality for the money was an HTP Mig 140. This macine is AWESOME is a gas welder, and runs on 120.
I have worked with the small Lincoln before and honestly the HTP is better. Their number is 1-800-USA-WELD. Their catalog also has some excellent restoration stuff.
