Can Anybody Figure Out What This Is?? What Year It Is?? What Is The Horsepower?? Will It Work Out Okay In My 1970 Chevelle?? 454, i think it's a 1974 casting 240 hp truck block. 049 is a big oval port bbc head, you can make good power with them. guys will probably tell to put bigger valves in them. there are guys here that have run in the 10's with the right engine combo and those heads.

Don't know the installed code, but H28-72 is Aug 8, 1972 casting date, and the heads are E19-73 (May 19, 1973). Correct parts for a circa '73 454 motor. Only bugger is these are just barely approaching 8.5/1 CR and more than likely closer to 8.25/1 CR. Good part is, it will respind well to a few basic mods. Cut the heads about .060, reinstall with stock type .022 steel head gaskets and a decent modern cam (something in the 224int/230exh @ .050, 110LSA, installed at 106ICL). This will make all the difference in that stock motor.

A "T--" code 454 BB motor is generally out of a TRUCK!

So therefore, if it came out of a 'Vette, somebody put a P/U motor in the 'Vette if that is the case??

My '75 454 P/U block that I made my 496" motor out of is a "TSC" code block..
