Im not sure if by 70 there is a fusable link. Check to see if you are getting voltage into the fuse block. Do the head lights work when you turn them on? If they do, then while the lights are on try to honk the horn (no im not kidding) if the lights dim and the horn peters out you don't have a fully charged battery. If it all checks out, then you need to check to see if there are some fuses blown, and that there is power getting to the key.

You either have a bad connection,a bad battery cable,or a burned fuseable link. You will need a test light or a volt meter. Start at the battery posts, you should have about 12.5 volts, then work your way to the starter. You should still have same volts,if cables test good, the fuseable link is the bulge in the main wire going up from the starter, check both sides of this for voltage. Steve

If your positive bat. cable is single(no extra wire at the bat. end)to the starter, the other wire on the big post of the starter is the ignition(inside)feed. Maybe someone already repaired (replaced) the link at some point, but that wire mated to the pos. cable at the starter feeds the inside of the car.Check it closely. Steve

If all was well before bat. died. Id check the connection for the new bat. Did you try to jump start the car. Batteries sit on shelves for a while and can loose there charge.

I'm pretty sure the fusible link in '70 was a pigtail off the battery terminal to the junction connection attached to the core support. Do you have power at the battery? Do you have power at where the pigtail connects to the stud? If yes to the first and no to the second then your fusible link is bad. You can buy a piece to replace it at any decent auto parts store.

Fusible link doesnt have to be a bulge. It can be what appears to be a large guage wire.

Pro68Camaro, Thanks for the clarification on the link wire location.I was at work yesterday,my alldata doesn't go back that far. My 69 car and manuals are at home. Symptoms had to be connection or link problems. My memory just didn't serve me well on location, but hope problem was located and repaired. Steve

Might check at the double terminal (BAT) on the horn relay, should have 12 volts there coming from the terminal on the core support.
You do have a pigtail on the positive battery cable going to the terminal on the core support, right?

I had similar problem on my 68 and it was a fuse behnid the d/s headlight. I think the reason the fuse blew was because of a grounded wire that burned through on the header... check to see if your horn works.
