Anybody using Lemons headers with a tall deck BBC in a Chevelle?
If so how is the fit and quality?
Thanks for any input T.C.

I have Lemmon's Headers on a short deck (540) in a 70 Chevelle. The quality and fit are Excellent. The header size I am using is 2 1/8 stepped to 2 1/4 to a 4" collector. Overall, I'm very happy with them.
There was on small catch that I was un-aware of though. Lemmon's designs their headers for maximum accessability to the oil filter and starter. So two tubes on each side go around the frame. On the drivers side, I had to cut the wheel well pretty high up for clearance for ONE of those tubes. Just so you are aware! It works out great for clearance around the starter and oil filter. The primary tubes are not laying right on the starter and heatin it up either.
The passenger side only required a slight cut.

I've also got Lemons on a short deck in a 65 with 2-3/8 tubes to 4-1/2 collectors. You absolutely will not go wrong going with them. They are built to order and will ask you lots of questions to get them exactly right. Tall or short deck, which heads you are using, are exhaust ports raised, how is motor mounted (plates, solid, stock?), etc.etc. They are automotive art.

My son has a set of 2 1/4" stepped to 2 3/8" on his Chevelle with a tall deck 598" BB. Great fit and finish and they were coated by airborn. Two tubes over both sides of the frame. He bought plastic inner fenders and trimmed them to fit. They tuck up pretty tight under the frame and if we can get the car to stop standing up so bad maybe we won't dent them again. The're is a little trimming on the drivers side upper "A" frame to clear the bottom of #5 tube in case of wheelies.

I can't speak for a tall deck or even a big block but, I had Lemons make a custom set of headers for my current project. They are top notch people to deal with. I highly recommend them. I went to the shop in person (actually left my car with them) and I could not be happier. Well worth the money. They are works of art, plenty of room to access spark plugs, oil filter, etc... Real good people.

Thanks for the replies, I will give them a call.
Actually I had never heard a bad word about them, but I knew if anyone would have the true story you all would.
Thanks again T.C.

TC,

I have a set of Lemon's headers on my '71 with tall deck SBC with raised port 18 deg. heads. They hit on 4-5 tubes when I got them. I had to cut a couple of the tubes off to even get them in the car. I called and spoke to Dan and he was truly as concerned as I was. I gave Dan the dimensions that were needed to make them fit.

He paid for shipping both ways and made the changes at no charge.

Yes it stunk to have to delays and send them back, but in my mind what really matters is the way that it was taken care of and they are VERY nice.

Your picture looks a lot like my son 598 does. What made the stainless tubes necessary? Those 2 1/8" primary Lemons for sale by F1 Speed would be a pretty good buy.

Im going stainless because of the price, he is doing it for a very resonable price!!! Also they are going to be individualy bent and welded in the car to get a true custom fit, better than lemons and around the same price, if you can belive that!:beers:
