"An Anamatomical Exhibition Of Real Human Bodies."

Thats what this traveling exhibition is called that is going from city to city. I went to it yesterday in downtown St. Paul Minnesota, at the Science museum. I went there with a new girl I have been dating and she came up with the idea. I had no idea what to expect and was a little aprensive about going.

I have to say this is by far ONE OF THE MOST FASCINATING THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! And I am not joking about that.

If you have never seen this nor even know what I am talking about. Its a exhibit that features the Human Anatomy and all the subjects on display ARE TOTALLY REAL!!! You get to see everything you ever wonder about that is inside a human body thanks to a moden plasticization(sp) process that they do by turning all the water of a human cadaver and injecting it with a silicone that keeps the tissue its original color and form thus perfectly perserving it.

Plenty of full maniquens with all the organs, muscles, bones, capliaries, are shown. As well as many glass cases with all the internal organs layed out and a description of how it works. There is even a room featuring childbirth is included. Including many unborns and a real woman that was pregnant and even has the baby inside still. There are also some cases with some birth defects like one siamese twin. They even were able to take a real human blood system with its hundreds of miles of passages of which some are so small, its like fine silk mesh and were able to keep all that intact and show you how it all fits and looks in a human body.

Remember.....ALL OF THIS WAS TOTALLY REAL...The humans that died and were on display had donated thier bodies to science and allow them to teach about how the human body works for education purposes. The pregnant woman had an incurable disease in which her unborn child has also contracted the disease too, neither had a chance to survive so she also donated her body to science too.

They even went as far as to show the lungs that came out of a smoker and other dangerous health problems like what a liver looks like from an Alcoholic vs. an actually healthy liver. Even several other effected organs from various diseases. Lots of cutout displays. There is even a horse standing on its hind legs with the rider still sitting on it and its all disected so you can see how everything all fits together. They even disected the horse too. I just cant explain how cool this whole attraction was in words....You really just have to see it for yourself.

Also....If your a queazy person that gets grossed out easily or have a weak stomach. Dont worry about going to this if you get a chance. I thought it was going to be discusting and gross but it was not even close. They presented everything to well that it wasnt a big deal at all.

Im really glad I had an open mind to go. They wouldnt allow cameras in there so I couldnt take any pics to show you. The words just dont do it justice.

Hey Chris,

I've heard great things about it too but didn't want to go because I'm not too good with the sight of blood and guts. Do you reall think us queazy guys can make it through without hurling?

I seen something on TV about it and it was pretty amazing. I think a queazy person could see it with out getting sick. You could just tell youself it is not real..

I saw it in Denver with a 9th grade science class. The kids were amazed, and behaved without the normal immature stereotypes I'd expected. They had a very detailed worksheet they had to complete, and stayed very busy doing so.

Me, I thought it was fascinating.

Chris, that is interesting I wouldn't mind seeing it if it ever came this far northeast.
Now tell us the important thing!
Did you get lucky with the girl after seeing all that??? We are all wondering, but so far I'm the first to ask. Not exactly a typical date.....

I saw the exhibit also. I dont think you will be queasy. It seems like it would make someone, but it is not really disgusting. My wife is pretty sensitive, and she wasnt even phased. By the way, I dont think everyone "donated" their bodies. There have been some news articles on where some of the bodies came from. I think some came from prisoners, unclaimed bodies, etc. By the way, I saw it in NYC last weekend.

My boss saw this in Coloroado a couple months ago. He had similar comments about how facinating it was to see.

Do not miss this exhibit. I saw it in Chicago at MSI and it was worth every penny. If you have kids, it would be great to show them what unhealthy habits really do to your insides. It really makes you appreciate how complex the human body is. It wont make you queasy either, the muscle looks just like beef jerky.

Bodyworlds is totally awesome .... You will never get to see such detail short of medical school... The science museum is one of my accounts so I get to see the changes month to month... The horse and rider (http://www.smm.org/bodyworlds/images/horse_rider_home.jpg) there now is incredible..

I had a little trouble viewing the birth defects section.... But the displays are tastefully done.. You wont eat salmon for a while though ;)

Absolutely Paul. I am all for horror movies (love the saw movies), but I am not the least bit intrested in seeing gory, discusting stuff in real life. This exhibit is nothing like that. The Plasticization process makes it quite presentable.

There is still time. Thats what made this (our second) date so wonderfull. I can understand her intrest in this sort of thing. She is a professional message thearipist.:hurray: :hurray: :hurray:  Already planning to get together thursday evening and then bowling saturday night this week.

Actually, it looks like some cities are getting "bodyworlds II or even III". Im wondering if there are other exhibits like this planned and are already on tour also.

Exactly. It really does not look as gory or whatever as it sounds. I was kind of nervous about this whole thing all last week but kept an open mind about it, and am certainly glad I did.

Thanks for posting that pic Tony. That man/horse display was so incredible it was crazy. It is just something you have to see for yourself. The birth defect section is one of those that is pretty fascinating and heartbreaking also. Its all just so fascinating cause everything was an actually living person (or creature in some cases).

The other fascinating thing was considering the technoligy and process it takes to preserve these displays.
