I just joined the forum and want to contribute this. I read a lot about fuel vapor issues and my 69 Chevelle sure had them, I just bought it a couple of weeks ago and wow did I have fuel smells!! Turns out, I had a few issues going on, one -the infamous fuel tank vent lines: I bought new hose and nicely enough 1/4" fits nicely inside 7/16" hose. So I bought a 1/4 inch Y adapter and ran both lines to it, on the out side of the Y I clamped on a glass fuel filter that I removed the guts on. I replaced the guts with lawn mower air filter foam and the filter tucked in nicely behind the tab bracket. That problem was solved.
The previous owner ran cheap braided fuel hose from the tank to a Mallory Comp 140 filter in the trunk (yes, IN the trunk) to a Carter fuel pump, also in the trunk, and braided line to the 5/16 frame tube. This line stunk BAD! So, I replaced all the fuel line from either end of the frame tube with a quality fuel rubber line and all new clamps, I elimated the Mallory filter and replaced it with a glass filter - it seemed like overkill and there was no room for it on the car, I moved the pump to the frame. That problem solved.
Now I just need to replace the trunk weather stripping, which I now have to eliminate any exhaust fumes working up through the trunk to the interior.
I hope someone finds this info usefull, I know it's not new because I got all the ideas here! Anyone want a Mallory Comp 140 filter body?
