I live in Maine and just purchased a 1965 L79 4-speed El Camino. I was wondering if anyone new or had information on how many 65 L79's were produced?

Thanks,
Al

Wow nice El Camino! Not sure where exactly you might find the number but according to one book I have a little over 6000 L79s were built options-wise.

Edit: the above number was for Chevelle models not sure if El Caminos were included.

Remember seeing for sale just a couple of weeks ago. Seemed like a pretty nice truck when the sales hype was dismissed. Might look for user Rich-L79, he's one of the local 65 gurus and has a sweet Maroon 65 L79 SS. He can probably help with numbers and 'fixing' any details on the engine. Congratulations on the purchase - nice to see it go to a fellow enthusiast!

I'd bet the 6,051 L79s sold in 65 (that's the number I have) was for all Chevelle models. Stats were kept on the number of models sold and number of a specific option sold but not a combination of any options or models. The L79 accounted for just 2.58% of V8s sold in 65 (234,676 units). With 27,965 V8 El Caminos reported sold, 2.58% of that gives a statistical probability of 721 being sold with the L79 but probably a much lower number in reality.

Also saw the car listed for sale, and it does look very sharp ! Good luck with her ! I purchased a very similar car a month or so ago here in Arizona { Scottsdale } . Yours seems to be in more of what I would deem as "show quality " where mine is , and has been more of a driver . Have a few issues with mine such as the wrong carb. { current unit is WAY TOO BIG } but have a rebuilt correct Holley coming from a TC member . Have just located the correct gas lines, filter, bracket, etc . from True Connections and that is enroute also.:hurray: . Mine is alittle rough around the edges, but in time will be where I want it to be -- a nice driver / cruiser . Go to ebay " Literature & Manuals " and you will find almost anything in print regarding Elky's , Chevelles ,etc. I have purchased several different books as well as shop manual, assembly manual, chassis manual, etc. This site has also been a big help to me, and if you have any questions, this is the place . Best of luck & good choice , LOL !! :beers:
