: Convertible Body Off

I have decided to pull the body off my 68 Convertible to better clean up the frame. I have a few questions

How many body mounts are there?

Are they likely to come loose without much trouble?

I am leaving the doors on for strength and I do not want to disturb the interior for now, is that going to be a problem? I just want one thing left intact instead of strung out over the entire shop like the rest of this project.

I know I can put a strap around the cowl in the front, but where in the back should I lift from? I think I am going to lift the front and back fron the rafters in my shop and then drag the frame out from under the body.

Thanks for any help

Josh

You should probably get an assembly manual to answer the questions on your 68. I'm not sure if it's the same as a 67. How easily the bolts break loose will depend on the history of the car. I would start now and soak them with penetrating oil. Several have hidden cage nuts, and you don't want to break the nuts loose that are hidden in the body.

I supported the inside of mine with a steel fram I made. If you are going to lift it unsupported, I would make sure you have several equally spaced pickup points. Good luck.

Can you get to most of the nuts to spray them with lubricant?

I drilled small holes from the top over each hidden mount and soaked the nuts with PB Blaster for a couple of days. This is 1 step you don't want to skip.

I used a liift at my work to pick my car up and had no problems getting bolts out,but i tried it on the ground first and didn't have to much luck there.
