Hi I'M the new guy to the team. I just recently purchased my Chevelle and I'm trying to decode the trim tag. The engine and 4-spd. trans were out of the car when I purchased it. Is there any way to tell what 396 came in the car originally? In the top right hand corner of the trim tag position 2 in the Chevrolet by the numbers book are the numbers 11. Does anybody know what that stands for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Info on trim tag as follows:

ST 68 13837 BAL10552 BODY
TR 766- B C2 PAINT

Not too sure what your 11 stands for I believe that one is an unknown. But let me be the first to welcome another 68 owner.

Welcome!!!!

Do you go by Dyno or Mac?

Where are you from?

Do you have pics? Not of you but your car.

After you figure it out get ready for a great time here, lots to learn, lots and lots of great folks and plenty of reading for you to catch up on.

Added 11/05/2006...I was not attempting to offend you and hope I have not, but did notice you posted and then deleted the post.

We just like to know a little info on new members, if you notice we are 30,000+ members strong, and it helps to have some info just to help remember who is who.

The B in the trim code means bucket seat. Some of the plants (Baltimore & Kansas City) had the A & B notations for bench and bucket, some didn't.
There's no way of telling what engine and trans came with the car unless you have the POP (a credit card looking deal attached to the warranty booklet) or if you can find the broadcast sheet for it, and they are scarce as hen's teeth.

Thanks for the A & B thing Bill. I will have to remember that.
