Hey everyone, I just stumbled upon this siter and joined, I have 72 chevelle 2dr cpe, I've pondering the idea of converting the front end to a 70, it just looks better in my eyes with the four light in the rear, just wondering if anyone's done it and if it requires anything other than harness,fenders,grill, hood, headlight fillers, I need a new hood and fenders anyway so I was playin with the idea, hope to hear from ya'll, Chris graemlins/beers.gif

Only thing I can think to add is a new front bumper and turn signals. 70-72 hoods are the same but if yours is trashed then I can see replacing it.

You'll need:

Fenders
Fender Extentions
Core Support
Lights
Grill
Bumper

But these were all listed before. I was just making a "True" list. ;)

Does the replacement of the radiator core support require cutting/welding?

Core support {Bolt on}
Fenders {bolt on}
Fender Extentions {Bolt on}
Grill {bolt on}

Front bumpers are NOT the same from 70 to 71-72.

Also need some misc brackets that are NOT reproduced they are a junk yard find.

Need headlight buckets.

Why not LEAVE as a 71 or 72. Everybody and their dog has a 70.

I like the 71-2 rear tail lights better than a 70 but I like the 70 headlight setup better than the 71-2

Front bumpers are definitely different.

I must agree. I left my chevelle intact as a '72 instead of swapping the front for a '70 because I wanted to stick out a little. I know that '70's are probably the most popular chevelle. I love the entire look of the 70 better then the 71/72 but I still like the 71/72's also.

Is the only difference in fenders the sidemarkers?

Ij ust like the 70 front better, 71-72 to me is boring, it needs somethin, maybe I'll fab somethin custom I dunno, I got some time before anyhting happens

You want to talk to "pnutkemist", Phil actually.
He has a '71 as I recall that now has a '70 front end. Did a nice job on the conversion.

Search his username or email him...

Chris,

I did the conversion on a '72 elCamino. The '70 elky fenders were hard to find so I made them out of rusted out 70 Chevelles fenders by cutting the mounting flange out of the fronts. You also need the core support with the grill brackets (grill brackets are not available aftermarket, hood latch support, headlight buckets and adjusters with springs and side marker lights. Fender extensions with trim, grill, bumper (with lights), and grill to bumper filler panel. A few wiring modifications and your done.

The front parts that you use off the '71-'72 is the hood and hinges, wheel wells and radiator, and core support bushings.

Easiest way to do it on a Chevelle is find a complete junkyard nose or a cheap 4dr donor car.
