This comes up from time to time and I will give the same answer.

There are NO kits, none what so ever for ANY car that I know of. There are people who sell hinges, some better than others. There are people who sell these hinges with VERY general "instructions" that are not for any specific car and are as close to worthless as you can get.

If you don't have a TOTAL understanding on how to do this VERY difficult modification, forget it. It is WAY MORE than simply making the door open "wrong" it is very complex.

I have done them before. I had many body mods under my belt when I did, top chopping, sectioning the works. It still took me about 40 hours on the first door and 20 on the second. There is much more to think about besides the hinges, there is how the door hits the rubber for instance. On a sixties Chevelle the wing window post goes "forward" as it is going in and tucks into the rubber on A piller. If the door is swinging from the other end it just doesn't work the same. The biggie is the fact that the door goes into the area behind the fender, in a suicide set up it has to go OUT so it clears the quarter. The placement of the hinges is critical so that the pins (pivot point) is very close to the outer skin of the quarter so the door goes OUT at the rear as it opens before going back in the swing to clear the quarter. I have seen MANY jobs where the door gap on the rear has to be huge so the door will do this, poor planning.

The front area were the hinges use to be is now a hideous gaping hole that has to be dealt with. You have to build out the jamb there so it will hold the striker. Again, most guys will put a "box" looking thing to hold the striker instead of building a new jamb to cover up the gaping hole.

I have looked at MANY, MANY "kits" on the market, many MANY web sites where "kits" are sold. There are NO real kits, only hinges with some lame instructions.

Spend your time on detailing the car it makes much more sense. NOTHING but NOTHING will make a car stand out more than good detailing.

i agree there are no good kits specific to any car. they require a lot of fabrication.

Dale, if you're still looking for ideas on this, I ran across this site this morning.

Suicidedoors.com (http://suicidedoors.com/index.html)

They show a how-to article for an S-10, and they have some good tips to help the install. They also sell a nice hinge and latch kit, with the Bearclaw latches the street rod guys use. Not to mention a good source for airbag parts, looks like.
